STEPHEN MONAHAN

 

Steve Monahan, and Tom Lazaros along with Dan Bourgoise started the Appoline Gang, which eventually included  Bob Seger, Del Shannon and Doug (Fontaine) Brown. Tom Lazaros and Stephen Monahan started Free Breez Music in the 1970?s. In the 60?s Dan and Steve toured with Del Shannon. Later they started to work with the Dick Clark Caravans. The Dick Clark Caravans had 3 different busses that went to various cities in the nation. The people they met and didn't get to work with or run with are a short list. Thanks go to Frances Preston who is President of Broadcast Music Inc. Del Bryant is currently the Sr. Vice-President of Performing Rights, writer/publisher relations. Roger Sovine was Vice-President of writer/publisher relations until his retirement in December 2000. Paul Corbin succeeded him in the position. Free Breez Music received the 1973 BMI Citation of Achievement Award. Over the years they have written and/or produced numerous songs used by such well known artist as Del Shannon, with whom they where close friends, Eddie Rabbit, George Jones, John Anderson, and others. They have had 4 hits that went to the number one spot and others which are to numerous to mention. Free Breez was on the national charts for 5 years without a pause. In the mid 60's Steve and Dan lived on Woodrow Wilson Dr in Hollywood Hills, just a few doors down from Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Tommy and Bobbie worked for Screen Gems Columbia under Don Kirshner. One day Tommy and Bobby invited Steve, Dan and Del to Studio B at RCA to hear the audition of a new group called the Monkee's. They where singing a song called "Hey Hey We're the Monkee's" and "Last Train to Clarksville"

Stephen currently runs a very successful chiropractic practice in Jacksonville, Florida. He is also  the owner of Macxum.com which provides therapeutic pain relieving devices.
